Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron

Located on the waterfront of Brisbane’s eastern Bayside suburb Manly, the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron is home to one of this State’s oldest and most prestigious recreational sailing and cruising clubs.  Formed in 1885, the Squadron has a long history of supporting and encouraging sailing as a sport that continues today.

The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron (RQYS) has successfully hosted several Australian and World Championships; including both Etchell and Laser Radial Worlds. In the 2017/18 Summer series, RQYS hosted 6 consecutive national and international regattas including both youth and senior classes, over 850 competitors and 3,000 visitors.

General Services and Facilities

RQYS is located 15km from the Port of Brisbane for ease of transport and containered shipping for International competitors.

Several sail lofts and chandleries are within a few kilometres of RQYS and most area able to pick up and drop off for overnight repairs during regattas.

Car, trailer and shipping container parking is available through-out the regatta.

Four launching ramps, five rigging lawns, Bathroom and showers in three locations, Laundry, 24 hour fuel pontoon.

Sailing Area

The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron provides a range of sailing courses to cater to all boats and condition types.

The inshore courses on Waterloo Bay are only 20 minutes from the Squadron, where tidal influence in minimal and prevailing winds are from the south-east to north-east. The course area has minimal amounts of recreational traffic and no commercial activities. Most wind conditions allow for an uninhibited beat of up to 1.2nm.
